Poetry Web Quest and Newsletter

Here is the assignment we are working on this week and the start of nest week.  The final newsletter is due Tuesday, Dec. 11th.  Please work in pairs so that we can use the available computers at school and so that you can use each other's creative juices. You will have a hard copy of this assignment, too, so you can use the checklist as you complete the tasks. Mrs. Eddy

Writing about Poetry and Writing a Poem

We wrote a lot today about our favorite moves, our own lives, and how we are, in a way, the protagonist in our own story.  We even practiced writing about our daily live in the third person--interesting!  We then took a look at a poem by E.A. Poe in conjunction with the idea that we are all unique-- no matter who tells our story.  We will write a poem of the same length, and experimenting with similar punctuation-- to turn in this week.  Drafting continues tomorrow.

Proposal Format
Hopefully, you turned in your proposal today.  If not, please get it here by Monday,as you are gone for a week after that.  I am so excited to see your ideas.
We spent three days in the library typing up our 5-10 page stories--check the last post for the details on what must be included in the draft due Monday, November 19th.
Have a great weekend!

Pocket Poems

This week we worked n expanding our ideas for a new story (see last week's post) and drafted a new poem. Pocket Poem Directions

Thursday or Friday you WILL read a poem aloud in class-- from your seat, without a lot of pressure, your choice of which poem to read: your Pantoum Poem, your "Time of Day" poem, your "Pocket Poem."
Happy trails!

Friday we will begin proposals for the semester project.  We will preview and brainstorm possible projects--here is the document that tells you EXACTLY how to write a proposal for a 15-20 hour project. Proposals due on Tuesday, November 13th.

We will go to the computers on Nov. 13,14,15 and, if you are ready, you will type up your expanded short story: use the one you started recently (plot/character exercise) or the one you wrote for the "hidden identity" assignment earlier in the semester.  5-10 page paper, double space, this time.  Excellent!

Today, Monday, October 22nd, we brainstormed about life events--learned how to narrow them down to specifics and began to write a PANTOUM: a poem with a very specific pattern (form).
The brainstorming and beginnings of our work are in our writing journals-- we will create a first draft tomorrow and turn it in. Happy Poeming!
